Lisa's Review

Lisa has been attending rock concerts since she was 13 years old.  “I have seen as many shows as I could possibly squeeze in… everything from Aerosmith to ZZ Top... I love music and by no means consider myself an expert.  I know what I like and Souvenir rates high on my list.”

Perpetual Blues Machine

A clever little bluesy number... Ray's personality glitters in these types of tunes. Sorry guys I have to agree with Lois and Susan... It shouldn't be track one... my thought is that it should trade places with track 11.  But don't let the placement deter listeners... the rest of the tracks are nothing like this fun little song that shows the playful side of Souvenir.

Moondance

Van himself would be proud of this cover.  The slow repetitious chords of the verse give way to a peppy chorus, that makes one sing along.  The emphasis placed on the lyric plays out and is completely effective in grabbing the listener's attention.  The abrupt staccato piece is noteworthy.

Layla

As usual, a crowd favorite.  An unplugged slow, flowing rendition... I especially like the instrumental interlude.... it exudes your guitar abilities.  I'm not a big fan of this song, and have heard it more times than I would like to remember, however, Souvenir holds my attention anyway and keeps me interested to the finish of the song.

Summer Breeze

This one takes me back... junior high school dance... it is so pleasant I can almost feel the wind blowing against my skin.  The soft, soothing, harmony is obvious to a 70's throw back.  Times were much simpler and life was slower but don't count this old classic out.

Harvest Moon

Wow... this romantic song is done so well.  All of the ladies love this tune, it makes us all long for the way Neil feels about his love in this one.  Ray's very best  vocal skill is exhibited here.  Not to mention the great backing vocal.  It is an excellent rendition and a fan favorite.  Thanks.

Wicked Game

Thank Goodness you learned this song.. This is my pick on the CD.  From the quiet sultry beginning to the extended note at the end (Streisand has nothing on you, Ray)… this one is a pleasure to listen to.  The blend of rhythm guitar and what sounds like a steel guitar, stirs the mind and spirit.  I haven't heard Souvenir expose their talent any better than they do here.

Operator

Todd takes the mike for this one and I don't know why he is so shy about stealing the lead... he sings with such clear, concise talent (except when we razz him).  Nice finger work too...and I will keep the dime!

Shine

Old Tricks-- New Tricks???  Who says you can't teach Old Dogs New Tricks?  Souvenir proves that they can handle the old classics as well as the new and hip without a problem.  Although their repertoire consists mostly of older tunes, the alternative and trendy guitar bridge ROCKS!  Shine is an exciting addition to this collection of songs.  We all love to see that electric guitar come out of the case.  Now that we know you can do it... we will be expecting more, so get busy guys!

Ventura Highway

This song is sure to revive a new interest based on the sample in Janet Jackson's recent release.  This is a cover of the original America tune, it is just as melodic as I remember.  An ever-present harmony is pleasing to the ear.  America's music seems to compliment you.

Tequila Sunrise

Well you might actually want to get a drink to "cry in" before listening to this well rounded version of the Eagles classic.  Todd nails the vocals on this old stand by and the guitar lead is not ignored.  Visions of grenadine and orange juice fill my head.

From the Beginning

On a serious note... what can I say about this song?  Souvenir's younger fans are probably not as familiar with this song.  The Spanish style guitar work gives way to a reminiscent melody.  Very well executed.  I enjoy this song immensely and feel that it would be a good intro song to perform.  It would open the door and set the mood for Souvenir's musical style.
