Another life-long resident of Charleston, my first "real band" was Sleeper. Sleeper was a wonderful classroom for figuring out what I liked and disliked, what "worked" for me (and didn't), what I was able to contribute to a band situation. Rounding out the decade in several other local bands of wildly varying pedigrees, I finished out New Years' Eve 1991 by quietly celebrating my break from the "Industry of Human Happiness", and didn't even touch a pick again until 1998! Musical influences include most everyone I've had the good fortune to play with (with the occasional exception, during what's now jokingly referred to as the "Lodge Band era"). Musician I most admire? Bill Bruford. The "Lunar Lander" is gone, also.... absolutely no more synthetic percussion.... the Roland electronics of the past four years have been jettisoned in favor of an all acoustic kit, including Pearl SRX Customs and all Paiste Signature, Traditionals, and Dimensions cymbals. And let's not forget the two Meinl AA cowbells.
